How it works

Evaporative Air Coolers replicate the cooling sensation of the breeze off the sea. In addition to cooling the air, an Evaporative Air Cooler also filters out dust and dirt particules and re-humidifies the air. Thus the environment of a room cooled by an Evaporative Air Cooler is fresher, cleaner and more comfortable.

By using water, the air in the room is kept moist and fresh encouraging a more healthy environment.

Evaporative Air Coolers work by drawing warm air though a filter pad which is saturated with water, and distributing cooled air. Fresh air is drawn in from outside and is forced through the moist filter causing water to evaporate and an exchange of latent heat energy to take place, resulting in a reduction in the temperature of the air to be discharged from the front of the cooler.

Dependant on relative humidity the temperature of the air distributed by the cooler will be between 20 and 30% cooler than ambient air drawn into the filter.  Relative humidity conditions in the UK are generally very favourable (high relative humidity being untypical).

There are several benefits over refrigerative air conditioning:-

• Low power consumption – with no compressor the power needed is very low. For example the Magicool needs less than 65watts of power

• Light weight – no compressor means that Evaporative Air Coolers are lightweight and truly portable

• Refreshes Air – Evaporative Air Coolers draw fresh air in from outside, this means that you can have windows and doors open to create a natural air flow.

• Low noise – Evaportaive Air Coolers are a lot quiter than refrigerative air conditioners making them ideal for use in offices or around the home

• No Venting needed – Evaporative Air Coolers draw fresh air from outside and distribute cool air through the room, replacing hot stale air.  No venting or “elephant trunk” is required
